NSE Profit More Than Doubles to KES 272.3 Million

The Nairobi Securities Exchange has posted a profit after tax of KES 272.2 million for the year ended 31 December 2025, up 134% from KES 116.3 million in the prior year, with earnings per share rising to KES 1.04 from KES 0.45. Total income crossed the KES 1 billion mark for the first time, rising to KES 1.09 billion from KES 828.4 million, driven by a broad-based rally across equity and fixed income markets.

Equity turnover grew 37% to KES 145.4 billion from KES 105.9 billion, lifting the equity transaction levy to KES 348.1 million from KES 253 million. Bond market turnover surged 75.5% to KES 2.71 trillion from KES 1.54 trillion, pushing bond transaction levy to KES 298.1 million from KES 169.9 million. Market capitalisation rose from KES 1.93 trillion to KES 2.94 trillion over the year, with the NSE 20 Share Index surging 56% and the NASI rising 51%. The exchange was recognised as the second-best performing bourse in Africa in dollar return terms by MSCI, with a 52% return.

Total expenses rose 10% to KES 741.5 million from KES 673.2 million, including a KES 47.7 million impairment on the current automated trading system ahead of its planned replacement in 2026. Total assets grew to KES 2.76 billion from KES 2.15 billion, with investable funds rising to KES 997.7 million from KES 670.4 million.

The Board has recommended a dividend of KES 1.00 per share, comprising an ordinary dividend of KES 0.73 and a special dividend of KES 0.27, up from KES 0.32 in 2024, payable by 31 July 2026 to shareholders on the register at the close of business on 21 May 2026.
