Standard Chartered Kenya Declares Record 95% Dividend Payout
Standard Chartered Bank Kenya has posted a profit after tax of KES 12.4 billion for the year ended 31 December 2025, down from KES 20.1 billion in the prior year, with earnings per share falling 38% to KES 32.47 from KES 52.65. Operating income declined 17%, weighed down by margin compression from falling interest rates and a drop in transactional volumes in Transaction Services and Markets.
Net interest income fell 13% to KES 28.9 billion from KES 33.3 billion, as declining interest rates squeezed margins, partially offset by growth in government securities income and a deliberate reduction in expensive deposits. Non-interest income declined to KES 13.4 billion from KES 17.4 billion, with foreign exchange trading income more than halving to KES 3.4 billion from KES 8.3 billion, while income from loans and advances contracted to KES 16.9 billion from KES 22.8 billion.
Operating expenses rose 13% to KES 25.5 billion from KES 22.5 billion, partly due to a one-off employee past service cost of KES 2.6 billion related to the pension case. Loan loss provisions eased 16% to KES 1.99 billion from KES 2.4 billion on recoveries and improved asset quality, with gross non-performing loans declining to KES 8.8 billion from KES 12 billion, bringing the non-performing loan ratio down 200 basis points to 5.4%.
Assets Under Management closed at KES 302 billion, up 29% from December 2024, reflecting strong client demand for wealth solutions. Net loans and advances grew 2% to KES 154.3 billion, while customer deposits stood at KES 283 billion. The Board has recommended a final dividend of KES 23.00 per share, bringing the total for the year to KES 31.00.
